birthdays
I turned 26 this week. I shared a few thoughts about it on social media and decided to post it here, too.
At church the day before, a few people very hesitantly asked how old I would be - understandable, since that’s not always considered a “polite” question. But I honestly can’t imagine ever getting to an age where I don’t want people to know how old I am.
I feel like that mindset is entirely based on the lie that younger is somehow better. That your life peaks in your twenties and the purpose of the rest of your life is to try to rewind the clock to your younger years.
I, for one, have no desire to go back to being any younger. I’m enjoying the fact that I’m finally starting to feel less and less like a dumb kid who has no idea what she’s doing😅
Every birthday is another year of growing in wisdom, confidence, and kindness. Every year is another opportunity to know Jesus more and become more like Him. Every year is one step closer to seeing Him face to face.
And maybe that’s a big reason why, for the Christian, getting older is not something to fear: because death is not something to fear.
Every day on this earth is a gift - but the real treasure is waiting at the end.
