Welcome to my new website!
Hi! If you’re reading this shortly after it was posted, there’s a good chance you came here from my old website, thekingandhiskingdom.com. I just posted there with the title “my last post ever (here),” directing people to this one.
While I wrote that one specifically for that audience, I thought it might be helpful to bring it over here too. But I’m not going to edit it at all, so just know that when it says “this website” it actually means the old one :)
You’ll also see a few posts below it - those were also originally published on The King and His Kingdom, but I brought them over here so there would be something to read when I first launch.
Anyway, here’s the post:
No, that title isn’t just clickbait, although the reality is a little less dramatic than that makes it sound. This really is my last post here on The King and His Kingdom.
But only because it’s the beginning of something else. I have a new website, new provider, and new url. From now on, you can find me at marliscarborough.com – which is a little bit different, but still a blog similar to this one.
I feel like there should be more emotions involved with writing the last post on a website that’s been a part of my life for the last seven years, but I’m really not feeling that sentimental about it. The biggest emotion I feel is relief at not having to deal with a clunky website.
I’ve been increasingly frustrated with WordPress for the last couple of years, and it’s gotten to a point where actually getting a blog post published is a bigger task than writing it. (and it’s also been awhile since I’ve been able to add pictures to my posts, and the hosting service I was using was confusing and expensive, and…I could go on, but you get the point.)
It was definitely time for a new website, and while I could have just kept the name and moved it to a new provider, it also seemed like that needed to change. “The King and His Kingdom” just doesn’t roll off the tongue, and while it’s still a good summary of what matters to me and what I want to share about, I don’t know if it’s the first impression I want to give.
At the same time, I feel hesitation about building something around my name, which sounds like humility but I think is probably just false humility trying to keep me from being open and authentic. I used to think that if what I shared was somewhat anonymous, that would bring the most glory to God. But I’m learning that sometimes the most humble thing is to openly and unashamedly tell the story of what God has done in your life, even if that sometimes feels like it puts the spotlight on you.
Anyway. This site will be up for a while yet, until I make sure I have all my old content downloaded in a useable format. And after that, I should be able to set up a redirect so that if you try to come to this site, it will go to the new one.
But for now be sure to check out the new blog and sign up for my email list, because I have lots of plans for the future! I’ve been holding back on posting here while I worked on my new website, so I have quite a few drafts to post there.
And because it’ll be easier to put up a post when I want to, I may post more frequent short posts (for example, if I write a long Instagram caption, I may just throw it up on the blog, too.)
Oh, and I will probably repost a lot of my old posts from here…in other words, there’s going to be a lot to read over there and you should check it out! 😀
And to the people who have followed along with this blog for seven years, thank you. Like I said, I’m so frustrated with the technical side of this website that I’m not sad to say goodbye to The King and His Kingdom, but I really do appreciate the people who have followed along with it. I hope you’ll come along over to my new website, even if the content is a little different!
